Adolescents (10-19 years old), account for 16% of the world’s population, which is 1.3 billion (UNICEF 2022). Nigeria accounts for about 2.3% of the 1.3 billion (30 million) and it is important to us at TBH with Uncle that not only are our Nigerian adolescents properly educated and cared for, but we also want to play our own part in ensuring that they are exposed to practical soft skills that can help them remain relevant to our new global village.
This summer we will be having our mentoring workshop with the theme “level up”. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, "level up" means to advance or improve oneself, someone else, or something. For us at To Be Honest with Uncle Kris, it would mean staying competitive as Pre-teens and Teens. Level-up as young adults would mean to be constantly empowered with the right tools in life that can in addition to school education and parenting support, better position our Nigerian teens for the future realities that comes with globalization. We believe that in addition to formal education, we should offer our teens the opportunity to “learn as much as they can while they are young, since life becomes too busy later” according to Dana Stewart Scott.
During this year's summer mentoring workshop, we would cover the following areas, empowering participants with practical tools to help them get better at:
1. Regulating their emotions
2. Choosing a relevant career in the 21st century.
3. Financial literacy and entrepreneurship
4. Safety online
5. Social skills and networking
6. Leadership.
In addition, we will have games, a movie, and a book review (The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens). Our approach is always fun and engaging, where every participant is expected to contribute to each session and share their views and key learning points. Date: 2-4th August 2023 (3 days)
Time: 10am - 3pm
Venue: The Shared Office Space, Novare Mall, Dalaba Street, Wuse, Zone 5, Abuja.
Fee: N20,000 per person (lunch and a workbook).
